Orchids: My Intersex Adventure cast Phoebe and Bonnie have appeared in an episdoe of SBS Insight. The episode finds out how Intersex people navigate life and the medical system.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure cast Phoebe and Bonnie joined intersex human rights advocates from Australian and Aotearoa/New Zealand intersex organisations at a two-day retreat in Darlington, Sydney, on 2-3 March.

A year in the making, the collaborative event also led to the issuing of the “Darlington Statement”, outlining key priorities including legal reform to recognise our bodily autonomy, effective rights-based oversight of clinical decisions, alongside access to affirmative health care and the importance of peer support.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure was repeated on ABC2 to a receptive audience.

The documentary also rescreened this year on ARTE France and Germany and RTV in Spain.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure is now on the educational streaming platform Kanopy.

Australians can watch Orchids: My Intersex Adventure online for free on Kanopy using your public library card or university login.

The film is also available on Vimeo On Demand.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure broadcasts on ARTE in Germany and France on Thursday 21 March.

In German, the documentary is titled Mein Leben Zwischen den Geschlechten, and in French Genre Indefini.

The film won awarded Best Short at mujerDoc 2013 in Spain only a few days before the broadcast.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure is set to screen throughout the USA and its territories and possessions on Showtime, Thursday June 07 2012 at 7:00pm.

Showtime is lining up three documentaries focusing on issues affecting the LGBT community in honor of Gay Pride month in June. The channel will also air No Look Pass and Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston.

The documentary also repeats on ABC2 Australia-wide 10:20pm Tuesday 11 September 2012.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure has been honoured with several awards recently.

Phoebe Hart was awarded Best Direction of a Documentary (Stand Alone Category) at the 2012 Australian Directors Guild Awards.

Orchids also won the Audience Award at the Divergenti Film Festival Italy and a Gold Kahuna Award at the Honolulu Film Awards USA.

We are pleased to announce that Orchids: My Intersex Adventure will be broadcast on ABCTV on Sunday January 29th 2012 at 10pm.

2011 has been a very exciting year for Orchids: My Intersex Adventure. And now, after a year of travelling around the world, the icing on the cake: a glorious AACTA nomination for Best Documentary Under One Hour. Thank you to the Jury members for considering the film.

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award, known as the AACTA Award (previously the Australian Film Institute Awards or AFI Awards), is the most prestigious awards ceremony for the Australian film and television industry. The awards ceremony will be held in Sydney on 31 January 2012.

Director / producer Phoebe Hart was recently invited to attend screenings of the film in Berlin, Hamburg and Copenhagen, and, to everyone's delight, she was there in person to accept the award for Best Documentary at Mix Copenhagen and the runner up prize for Best Documentary at Hamburg International Queer Film Festival.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure received the John Deen Memorial Award at the Spokane International LGBT Film Festival USA in November. The award is given to the film screening at the festival that most exemplifies the spirit of long-time Spokane activist John Deen by honoring a film that promotes the continuing struggle for human rights in the LGBT community.

Orchids also won Most Outstanding Documentary at Queer Fruits Film Festival 2011.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure was also nominated for Best Documentary at the IF Awards. Thank you Australia for rating!

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure is making its European festival debut at the UK's Raindance Film Festival, where it is in the Offical Selection for Documentaries. Raindance Film Festival is Europe’s leading independent film festival.

Following hot on its heels are screening dates in Germany, Denmark and Sweden.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure, which was voted in the most popular film at the Brisbane International Film Festival, examines with warmth, humour and honesty the shame and secrecy surrounding intersex (also known as a 'hermaphrodite' or a Difference of Sexual Development (DSD)).

"Orchids is arguably a 'world first' .... Early on, I made a conscious decision the film should be largely autobiographical. This was important for me on a number of levels and represented a huge step in terms of self-confidence and courage.... Orchids has allowed me to reflect on my coming-of-age experience and examine why 'coming out' continues to be extremely challenging."

That's the wonderful Phoebe Hart - the director, producer and star of this outstanding Australian feature documentary.

Phoebe has Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS), a congenital intersex condition that can either occur spontaneously at conception or be passed down the generations. People with AIS have a typical genetic male pattern but develop atypical reproductive organs as a result of their bodies being insensitive to male hormones.

To date, the film has shown at various film festivals around Australia with great success. Sadly, around the world there is a dearth of media that deals personally and sensitively with the complex issues of intersex, which is why Orchids is such a gem!

We want to send Phoebe to travel to world class festivals and conferences in the USA in July of 2011 and represent the film in person!

At present, there are no federal or state government travel grants available. :-(

IF WE CAN ALL HELP OUT, Phoebe will be able travel to screen Orchids at Outfest in Los Angeles, which is one of the world's biggest and longest running LGBT film festivals. Outfest nurtures and preserves lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (and intersex!) film images and artistry. Phoebe will also present Orchids at Newfest: The New York LGBT Film Festival.

Donations can be made via the Australian Arts Business Foundation (AbaF) website. This means you will receive a tax deductible receipt from the AbaF! Donations are paid in full to the artist as a grant. A total of more than $7 million has been donated to the arts through AbaF. Orchids: My Intersex Adventure premiered to a packed house at the Brisbane International Film Festival.

A huge crowd turned out to fill Cinema 1 at Palace Centro, New Farm.

The premiere was attended by cast and crew, and was followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Phoebe and Bonnie Hart.

The launch of the film enjoyed some great publicity, including articles in Fairfax Media publications, a 4-page feature in Q Weekend, and radio interviews with Richard Fidler on ABC Local and Film Club on 4ZZZ.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure screeens again at BIFF on Friday 12 November 2010 3:45pm at the Tribal Theatre.

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure takes out the ATOM Award for Best Documentary (General).

“The film is a world first in many ways,” says director Phoebe Hart. “This is a long form film about intersex by someone who has intersex. It’s personal and confronting but, at the same time, a very funny expose of what it’s like to have this body.”

Orchids: My Intersex Adventure beat four other finalists to take the award.

The world premiere of the film will be at the Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) on Saturday 6 November 2010 5pm Palace Centro.

The film screens again at the festival on Friday 12 November 2010 3:45pm at the Tribal Theatre.

The festival runs 4-14 November 2010 and is 11 days jam-packed full of films from around the world and the latest and best in world cinema, documentaries, retrospectives, late night thrillers, animation, a short film competition and much more!
